Labyrinth: Walking Prayer

Finding HOPE In Our Own Lives

Purpose: There are many ways to pray walking a labyrinth. Today, we’ll focus on experiencing connection with God, transformation, & personal hope.  Walking inward and returning out is a metaphor for going deeper into our own hearts with God, receiving/discovering what we need, and returning to the world empowered to live out our callings for the world.

  1. Enter in silence & remain in silence for your walk.
  2. Take slow steps. There is only one way in and one way out. You cannot get lost.  You’ll be heading to the center. If you meet someone coming another direction, you may step to the side, pass, and then return to your path.

  3. AS YOU JOURNEY INWARD: Consider sharing with God all of the things that weigh on you right now. With each few steps share these burdens and offer them to Jesus. (Guilt, wounds, fears/worries, grief, whatever makes your heart heavy.)  Remember that he said: “Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”—Matt. 11:28-30

  4. AT THE CENTER: You may stand or sit. You may simply enjoy being in God’s presence, sensing the Holy Spirit dwelling even in the center of yourself.  Focus on receiving the forgiveness, healing, rest, freedom, peace, and hope God offers.

  5. RETURNING OUTWARD: With each step out, breathe in more hope from God who empowers you. Focus on and celebrate all the gifts God has given and is giving you even now.  Offer your praise and thanks.  Commit yourself to live out of the hope you find in God.
